Historic Tree Nursery & American Forest
By Sarah Lane
Apr 13, 2008, 17:40

American Forests, the nation's oldest nonprofit citizen's organization, has had nothing but trees on the brain since its establishment in 1875. They have committed themselves to planting trees for environmental restoration and have established many conservation programs to preserve our nation's trees.

The Historic Tree Nursery is well known for their innovative program of propagating offspring from hundreds of previously identified trees of historical significance. The growing and planting of direct offspring combines contemporary conservation methods with a living historical heritage.

The National Register of Historic Trees identifies and registers all historic trees and also accepts nominations from the public. So now that you know the mission of the Historic Tree Nursery is to identify, preserve, and protect the trees with American heritage, you should be aware of the fact that you can plant your very own historical tree!

Whether is for a memorial, marriage, housewarming gift, or any other special occasion, you can choose from hundreds of historic trees. Choose by category such as American Heroes, the Civil War, Inventors, Military & Battles, Native Americans, and Famous Women.

You can search for a tree by its origin, growing zone, or price. They average at about 40 dollars per tree. The Historic Tree Nursery has a wonderful purpose and one that you can feel good about when contributing. It's a good way to become closer to history and the earth.
