Valentines & Vineyards in Oregon

Periodically, I do a write up on an exceptional location for a romanic getaway. This Valentine I decided to highlight a unique inn and spa in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, called The Allison Inn & Spa. This is a holiday destination for the wine-lovers out there.
Nestled in the heart of Oregon's wine country, this rather posh inn is the perfect place to cuddle up with your husband or wife and renew yourself away from kids. The inn features 85 rooms and suites, all of which are beautifully appointed with calm, relaxed neutral decor, large comfortable beds, and best of all - fireplaces! Even their smallest room is huge (490 sq ft), and their suites are the size of a fairly large apartment (865 sq. ft - 1575 sq. ft. for the Grand Suite).

The Valentine Special
For Valentine's Day, the Allison is running a Valentines & Vineyards Package that starts at $430, and yes I know this isn't Valentine's on a shoestring. Occasionally it's wonderful to save up and do something really special. This is one of those vacations that we should take as a couple, that we often forget to make time for in our busy schedules.
When you arrive at the Allison Inn, you will be taken to a King Sized room, complete with gas fireplace, soaking tub, and a bottle of chilled champagne. If you are there for Sunday or Monday, you'll also be treated to a special four course menu with an optional wine pairing (the wine pairing is an extra $45.00).
The Valentine Menu
Valentine Menu (Only available on Sunday and Monday 13/14 2011 - on Friday and Saturday you will have a $150 credit towards the ala carte menu.)
What can I say, other than yum!
First course: Choice of Roasted Apple Crepes with pancetta, arugula salad & comté cheese OR Champagne-Lime Scallop Ceviche with oysters, piquillo peppers, cilantro coulis & white corn tortilla chips.
Second course: Choice of Coconut-Curry Mussels with Oregon mushrooms, peanuts, cilantro & grilled roti OR Sunchoke-Saffron Soup with pearl onions, hazelnut gnocchi & goat cheese crème fraîche OR Garden Chicory Salad with candied walnuts, Rogue River blue cheese, honey crisp apples & red onions.
Third Course: Choice of Parsnip Ravioli with black périgord truffle, fried quail egg & caramelized fennel OR Roasted Duck Breast with broccolini tempura, cara cara oranges, almonds & bitter orange coulis OR Pan-Seared Halibut with endive ravigote, spaetlze, maitake & dijon-molasses sauce OR Pepper-Crusted Wagyu New York Striploin with potato confit, cream-braised cavolo nero, cippolini onion & smoked port sauce.
Dessert: Choice of Peppermint Pots de Crème with “red hot” candy & pistachio nougatine OR Medjool Date Beignets with passion fruit Chantilly & white chocolate ganache OR a selection of chocolates for two.
Wine and Entertainment
Lest you think the wine offerings will be limited, Jory's (the Inn's restaurant) carries over 700 varieties of wine, and more than 50 of them are available by the glass. Even better for someone like me, who doesn't drink a lot, but who enjoys wine, are their taster sizes. You can order a one oz taster, or a half glass. Perfect!
On Friday and Saturday, although you won't be able to enjoy the special Valentine menu, you will have the added fun of live Jazz performances in the Living Room, adjacent to JORY Bar from 6:30 – 10:00 pm.
Healthy and Relaxed
They also have an indoor swimming pool and fitness studio for those who hate to miss their workouts, and a Jacuzzi, saunas, and steam rooms to relax after. Then, you can arrange for a massage in one of 12 treatment rooms. They even have pinotherapy, which uses the local Willamette Valley pinot grapes for a special anti-aging treatment.
