Artscape - America's Largest Free Public Art Festival

Each July, Baltimore, Maryland host Artscape, America's largest free public arts festival. The festival features over 150 artists, fashion designers and craftspeople; visual art exhibits, outdoor sculpture, art cars, photography, and performing arts.

There are four outdoor stages that host ongoing concerts throughout the three days of the festival. A full schedule of performing arts including dance, opera, theater, fashion, film, experimental music and performances by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra held throughout the city.

Throughout the weekend there are also numerous family events that feature hands on art programs, competitions, demonstrations, and delicious international food.

A special band competition called "Sound Off" gives voice to the best unsigned bands in the nation. In 2008, nostalgic Indie-pop rock band, Gary B & the Notions, received the majority of the 10,000 votes cast to be chosen as the first place winner. The band features, Gary Barrett, Jr. on guitar and vocals, Kristofor Heath on bass and vocals, David Andler on drums, and Tim Sullivan on guitar.

A juried art show rounds out the celebration with 120 exceptional artists featuring America's finest crafts and fine arts. Exquisite examples of ceramics, jewelry, glass, sculpture, handmade prints, fine art, hand-decorated clothing and accessories, and photography are displayed and sold by the artists themselves along Charm City's cultural corridor.
