The Grinch and the Electric Company

With unseasonably cold weather racking most of the East Coast and Midwest this week, the Grinch seems to have taken up residence in the Electric Company in an attempt to stop the Christmas season's festivities. Somehow, many electric companies seem to have forgotten that price gouging is illegal, and many goverment agencies don't seem inclined to remind them or enforce the laws protecting the average family from this particular form of abuse.

Take matters into your own hands, and learn to minimize the amount you hand over to Mr. Grinch this year.

Questions to Ponder

  • Why does the goverment allow electric companies to raise their rates so high in recent years?

  • Are there ways for the average family to significantly reduce their electric usage?

  • Was the deregulation of electic utilities wise?

  • What projects can you do as a kid that would help your parents?
