MacDICT - Language Lookup Tool

MacDICT - An Awesome Little Language Lookup Tool For Students

If you are a Macintosh user, then we have an awesome little tool for you in the MacDICT program from Bains software. We downloaded this little program and have since been amazed by its functionality.

You can type in a word and find its definition or rhyme, or you can translate it into another language. You can also tap into the CIA Factbook to do a quick lookup of country data. (The only drawback is that the most recent CIA Factbook information in the databases listed is the data from 2002.) Babelfish is available through this little program, as are a number of specialized translation tools including one for Russian and one for Arabic.

This is one of the most useful tools that we've come across, and technically it's FREE...although if you like it, please pay their $10 shareware fee. This way they will continue to program other helpful programs.

Be sure to take a look at their other shareware programs:

Son of Weather Grok which gives you the latest weather on your desktop. It's very small and doesn't get in the way at all, and of course, you can also just keep it in your dock and launch it when you need it. This is also free, but they would love you to pay them the small shareware fee, if you find it useful.

Cram Session allows you to make a set of customized flashcards for studying. This one costs $6.50, but it could save you at least that much in flash card costs.
